An app to order groceries as well as your lunch from the in-house bistro? Bring on the challenge.

Working on the Requirements

Ordering food and groceries at the same time? This sure is exciting. These were some of the scenarios we had to deal with:

Users can get their groceries delivered to their homes or pick them up from the store.
Users can order food from their in-house bistro. Bistro orders are to be picked up from the store.
A rewards and loyalty program – users can keep track of their points, coupons and rewards.

This was all we had at the initial client meeting. Before we got to gathering more requirements for the application, I researched further into more applications similar to the requirements.

I drafted a document with the initial requirements from the research done and from a few more calls with the client.

Initial Wireframes and Visual Design

We received a green signal post a few calls to confirm the assumptions and requirements we put together. With the documentation set in place, I worked on the initial wireframes and drafted a deck to be shared with the client.

The wireframes covered the main flow of the app – ordering groceries for delivery, ordering food from the bistro and a few screens highlighting the rewards section of the app. These wireframes went into a deck and were shared with the client.

I walked through the app wireframes with the client and stakeholders and received generally positive reviews. With feedback in place, I modified the screens as needed and dropped in one more communicative with the clients to get the go-ahead to work on the UI of the application.

The client shared the brand guidelines with us which formed the base of the visuals. I also worked with the client’s design team to work on some of the visuals.

Quick Turnaround Times And Development Process

With the need for quick deliveries in a stipulated timeline, I, worked with the team wrapped up the project from start to finish in a matter of 4 weeks. Once done, I shared the design files and assets with their development team and oversaw the development process. The development process went through multiple technical iterations to improve the app’s responsiveness, speed and efficiency.

Key Takeaway

Working with multiple stakeholders, designers and developers within a quick timeline are always exciting. I learnt how to deal with multiple teams and effectively communicate requirements and deliverables to both clients and developers.

Project Status

The proposed solution is currently deployed at the client’s store. This is the start of an ongoing engagement with the client. With the system being used, we are closely observing user feedback and incorporating those change requests.

The project is currently getting ready to enter phase 2 which will involve further refinements to the system and building the experiences for the web store and customer-facing applications
